RESUMO

The incidence of chronic wounds has been increasing over the past 20 years. However, the standardized diagnosis and treatment practice of chronic refractory wounds have not been established. In addition, the properties of the wound are characterized by morphology and thus correct description of the wound in medical history collection plays a vital role, which directly affects the definitive diagnosis. To develop more accurate format of clinical history record which can correctly reflect a patient's course and treatment progress, and to standardize the medical history record of chronic refractory wounds, at the national or regional level, we designed the WoundCareLog APP. It acts as a recording and communication tool for wound healing specialists at all levels of medical institutions in China. The WoundCareLog APP is fully compatible to meet the criteria and requirements of conventional medical records by embedding 9 modules. In addition, the demands for morphological description of wounds in wound healing diagnosis and treatment have been fulfilled by enroll of digital imaging technology to overcome the inadequacies of traditional medical history records.

RESUMO

The mitochondrial genome of Epeorus herklotsi (Ephemeroptera: Heptageniidae) from Longquan, Zhejiang province, China was a circular molecule of 15,499 bp in length, containing 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNAs, 23 transfer RNAs, and a control region. The A + T content of the overall base composition of H-strand is 65.7%. All of the 13 protein-coding genes were begun with ATN as start codon except ND5 using GTG. ATP6, ATP8, COI, COIII, ND1, ND2, ND4L, and ND6 genes were terminated with TAA as stop codon, Cyt b ended with TAG and the other three protein-coding genes end with an incomplete stop codon (TA or T). In BI phylogenetic trees, the monophyly of the families Caenidae, Heptageniidae, Isonychiidae and Viemamellidae, and the genus Epeorus were strongly supported. Epeorus is a sister clade to Parafronurus, then cluster with Paegniodes.

RESUMO

Based on our initial genome-wide association study (GWAS) on esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in Han Chinese, we conducted a follow-up study to examine the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with family history (FH) of upper gastrointestinal cancer (UGI) cancer in cases with ESCC. We evaluated the association between SNPs and FH of UGI cancer among ESCC cases in a stage-1 case-only analysis of the National Cancer Institute (NCI, 541 cases with FH and 1399 without FH) and Henan GWAS (493 cases with FH and 869 without FH) data (discovery phase). The top SNPs (or their surrogates) from discovery were advanced to a stage-2 evaluation in additional Henan subjects (2801 cases with FH and 3136 without FH, replication phase). A total of 19 SNPs were associated with FH of UGI cancer in ESCC cases with P < 10-5 in the stage-1 meta-analysis of NCI and Henan GWAS data. In stage-2, the association for rs79747906 (located at 18p11.31, P = 5.79 × 10-6 in discovery) was replicated (P = 0.006), with a pooled-OR of 1.59 (95%CI: 1.11-2.28). We identified potential genetic variants associated with FH of UGI cancer. Our findings may provide important insights into new low-penetrance susceptibility regions involved in the susceptibility of families with multiple UGI cancer cases.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: : This study aimed to determine if gastric cardia adenocarcinoma (GCA) risk was associated with the lys (A or *2) allele at the rs671 (glu504lys) polymorphism within the aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) gene in a Chinese Han population. We also aimed to investigateALDH2 genotypic distributions between subjects from high- and low-incidence areas for both GCA and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). METHODS: : We designed a case-control study including 2,686 patients with GCA and 3,675 control subjects from high- and low-incidence areas for both GCA and ESCC in China. TaqMan allele discrimination assay was used to genotype the rs671 polymorphism.χ2 test and binary logistic regression analysis were used to estimate the odds ratios for the development of GCA, and multivariate ordinal logistic regression was used to analyzeALDH2 genotypic distributions among different groups. RESULTS: : Compared withALDH2*1/*1 homozygotes,ALDH2*1/*2 andALDH2*2/*2 carriers did not increase the risk for GCA in the Chinese Han population (P>0.05). Interestingly, the ratio of homozygous or heterozygousALDH2 *2 carriers in high-incidence areas for both GCA and ESCC was lower than that in low-incidence areas (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: : Genotypes of rs671 atALDH2 may not increase GCA susceptibility in Chinese Han populations. In addition, theALDH2 genotypic distribution differs between Chinese Han populations from high- and low-incidence areas for both GCA and ESCC. Our findings may shed light on the possible genetic mechanism for the dramatic geographic differences of GCA occurrence in China.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: : This study aims to investigate the truth-telling status and the relevant factors of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients in Henan, China. METHODS: : A cross-sectional study from April to June 2015 using questionnaires was given to 301 family members of hospitalized ESCC patients based in three affiliated hospitals of Zhengzhou University (i.e., The First Hospital, The Second Hospital, and Tumor Hospital) and Anyang Tumor Hospital. RESULTS: : Among the 41.9% (126/301) hospitalized ESCC patients who knew of their true diagnoses, only 4.0% patients were informed by their corresponding responsible doctors, 39.7% by their family members, and 56.3% by themselves. Univariate analyses showed that disclosure of confirmed ESCC diagnosis to patients was correlated with gender, family history of cancer (FHC), education level, vocation, hospital administrative level, and attitudes of family members (P < 0.05). Furthermore, multivariate analysis indicated that attitude of family members was the most important and an independent factor for diagnosis disclosure. Those patients with a negative FHC, under-education, manual occupation, advanced stages, and hospitalized in municipal hospitals exhibited a low rate of truth telling. CONCLUSIONS: : Truth telling for ESCC patients in Henan is not prevalent and may be improved through consultation with family members, particularly for patients with a negative FHC, poor education, manual occupation, and advanced stages.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The role of p16INK4a as a surrogate marker for screening human papillomavirus (HPV) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains controversial. METHODS: A comprehensive search of EMBASE, PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and China Biology Medicine was performed from inception to December 27, 2015. A random-effects model was applied to the pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: Ten studies were identified (985 cases). The pooled results showed no significant relationship between p16INK4a expression and HPV infection in ESCC based on overall HPV types (OR: 1.79, 95% CI: 0.69-4.66, p = 0.235). Subgroup analysis by HPV detection method showed no statistical significance in either the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (OR: 1.65, 95% CI: 0.83-3.30, p = 0.154) or in situ hybridization (ISH) group (OR: 2.58, 95% CI: 0.03-268.14, p = 0.689). The pooled OR of the sensitivity analysis ranged from 1.27 (95% CI: 0.58-2.84) to 2.32 (95% CI: 0.95-5.64). Of these studies, 6 involved only high-risk human papillomavirus types (HR-HPV), HPV16 or HPV18. However, similar observations were made for HR-HPV (OR = 1.31, 95% CI: 0.26-6.59, p = 0.741). Subgroup analysis again showed no statistical significance in the PCR group (OR: 0.95, 95% CI: 0.25-3.64, p = 0.940) and ISH group (OR: 2.58, 95% CI: 0.03-268.14, p = 0.689). Sensitivity analysis showed that the pooled OR ranged from 0.69 (95% CI: 0.21-2.22) to 1.89 (95% CI: 0.33-10.86). CONCLUSIONS: p16INK4a is not a reliable screening marker of HPV infection in ESCC. Further multicenter, large-sample and well-matched prospective studies are still required to illuminate the possible etiological roles of HPV in ESCC.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of gastric cancer have reported differences in single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) associations for tumour subtypes, particularly when divided by location into the gastric cardia versus the non-cardia. DESIGN: Here we present results for a GWAS using 2350 East Asian gastric cancer cases divided as 1189 gastric cardia and 1027 gastric non-cardia cases and 2708 controls. We also included up to 3042 cardia cases, 4359 non-cardia cases and 7548 controls for replication from two Chinese studies and one Korean study. From the GWAS, we selected 12 top SNPs for each gastric cancer subtype, 4 top SNPs for total gastric cancer and 1 SNP in MUC1 for replication testing. RESULTS: We observed genome-wide significant associations for rs10074991 in PRKAA1 at 5p13.1 for cardia (p=7.36×10(-12)) and non-cardia cancers (p=2.42×10(-23)) with per allele OR (95% CI) for the combined endpoint of 0.80 (0.77 to 0.83). At 6p21.1, rs2294693 near UNC5CL was significantly associated with gastric non-cardia cancer risk (p=2.50×10(-8)), with OR (95% CI) of 1.18 (1.12 to 1.26), but there was only a nominal association for cardia cancer (p=1.47×10(-2)). We also confirmed a previously reported association for rs4072037 in MUC1 with p=6.59×10(-8) for total gastric cancer and similar estimates for cardia and non-cardia cancers. Three SNPs in PSCA previously reported to be associated with gastric non-cardia cancer showed no apparent association for cardia cancer. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that associations for SNPs with gastric cancer show some different results by tumour location in the stomach.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the peri-implant tissue stability between immediate implant and delayed implant in maxillary anterior region after loading 2 years. METHODS: In the study, 38 patients with single anterior tooth loss in the Second Clinical Division of Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology from October 2010 to December 2011 were enrolled, and 43 implants were inserted. The gingival contour was induced using implant-supported temporary crowns prior to restoration till permanent prostheses delivered. The gingival papilla height, labial gingival margin level and peri-implant bone level were measured immediately after the permanent restoration and 2 years later. RESULTS: In the study, 16 patients were treated by immediate implant for 17 implants; 22 patients were treated by delayed implant for 26 implants. The implant stability quotient (ISQ) value of the 2 groups showed no significant difference before permanent restoration (P>0.05). In all the cases after loading 2 years, the average mesial gingival papilla height in the implant area of the immediate group and delayed group increased by (0.15 ± 0.42) mm and (0.06 ± 0.65) mm, respectively; the distal gingival papilla height increased by (0.06 ± 0.50) mm and (0.02 ± 0.57) mm respectively; while the labial gingival margin level shrinkages were (0.15 ± 0.23) mm and (0.15 ± 0.46) mm, respectively. The peri-implant bone losses in the mesial side were (0.67 ± 0.35) mm and (0.6 9 ± 0.49) mm, respectively, while in the distal side were (0.73 ± 0.31) mm and (0.75 ± 0.48) mm, respectively. All these indicators showed no significant difference between the 2 groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Both the cases obtained optimizer results after loading 2 years, and the soft and hard tissues around the implant were very stable, which means that both the protocols can achieve reliable therapeutic effects. If we can handle the indications, immediate implant for anterior teeth shows similar efficacy with delayed implant in the short term. But immediate implant in terms of shortening the course of treatment is clearly superior to delayed implant.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To explore the method of manufacturing an implant surgery template with a computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique and evaluate its precision in clinical cases. METHODS: Patients referred to the 2nd Dental Center of Peking University who were partially edentulous, were enrolled and scanned with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Diagnostic casts were laser scanned to record the configuration of the patients' dentition and mucosae. CBCT and laser scanning data were subsequently loaded into Simplant software. Implant positions were planned in the software with a computer-aided design technique, and surgical templates were fabricated with a rapid prototyping technique. These templates were used to guide implant placement surgery. RESULTS: The mean value of linear deviation was 1.00 mm (range 0 to 2.16 mm) for implant shoulder and 1.26 mm (range 0.51 to 2.86 mm) for the implant apex. The mean angular deviation was 4.74 degress (0.37 to 10.28 degrees). Deviations were higher in the posterior region than anterior. The tooth-supported template provided higher precision than did the tooth/ mucosa-supported template, but no statistically significant difference was found. CONCLUSION: Computer-guided implant surgery with the CAD/CAM technique provides dentists with a good platform for preoperative planning, precise implant insertion, and ideal rehabilitation. The protocol of this three-dimensional laser scanning technique can provide precision comparable to that of double-scanning.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Dental implant technology has developed rapidly in recent years. However, the use of implant-supported fixed bridges with cantilevers has been controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical results of the mandibular anterior implant-supported fixed bridges with a cantilever. Method Thirty-three patients (15 males, 18 females; mean age, 42.6 years; range 20-54 years) with two missing anterior mandibular teeth had single implant-supported fixed bridges with a cantilever. Clinical examination was recorded and radiographs were taken. The mean duration of follow-up was 30 months (15-44 months). RESULTS: All implants survived. Loosening or fracture of the prosthesis was not observed. All patients were satisfied with the treatment. The mean bone resorption values after 12, 24, and 36 months of implant loading were 0.94, 1.18 and 1.35 mm respectively. The changes of gingival papilla height ranged from 0 to 0.5 mm. There was significant difference between 1-year and 2 or 3 years restoration groups regarding the average gingival height changes (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: After careful and precise selection of patients, restoration with a single implant-supported fixed bridge with a cantilever can be recommended if two anterior mandibular teeth are missing.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical results of computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) titanium-ceramic-fixed partial dentures for implant-supported restoration in posterior region. METHODS: In the study, 90 patients (47 males, 43 females, and the mean age of 48.7 years ranging from 30-62 years) with posterior tooth missing underwent implant-supported porcelain fuse mental prostheses with CAD/CAM titanium-base. A total of 135 prostheses (159 prosthetic units) were fabricated, and 152 implants were placed. The evaluators examined the integrity of restoration, gingival health, color match and marginal adaptation. The mean follow-up time was 51.9 months (24-80 months). RESULTS: No implant was lost during the loading time. All the patients were satisfied at the end of their treatment. The chipping rate of porcelain fuse mental prostheses with CAD/CAM titanium-base was 13.2%(21/159 prosthetic units), No fracture of titanium-base was observed, and 7.4% (10/135) prostheses were found loosening. The authors rated 97.8% (132/135) prosthesis as good or better in regard to color match, 100% (152/152) implants had excellent marginal adaptation. CONCLUSION: The implant-supported titanium-based porcelain fuse mental prostheses with CAD/CAM show good marginal integrity and shade stability, with a clinically acceptable chipping rate, and these restorations can achieve success in the case of posterior tooth missing. Further study is needed to determine the long-term results.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To form a wound information management scheme with objectivity, standardization, and convenience by means of wound information management system. METHODS: A wound information management system was set up with the acquisition terminal, the defined wound description, the data bank, and related softwares. The efficacy of this system was evaluated in clinical practice. RESULTS: The acquisition terminal was composed of the third generation mobile phone and the software. It was feasible to get access to the wound information, including description, image, and therapeutic plan from the data bank by mobile phone. During 4 months, a collection of a total of 232 wound treatment information was entered, and accordingly standardized data of 38 patients were formed automatically. CONCLUSIONS: This system can provide standardized wound information management by standardized techniques of acquisition, transmission, and storage of wound information. It can be used widely in hospitals, especially primary medical institutions. Data resource of the system makes it possible for epidemiological study with large sample size in future.

RESUMO

The binding characteristics of organic ligands with Al(III) in soil dissolved organic matter (DOM) is essential to understand soil organic carbon (SOC) storage. In this study, two-dimensional (2D) FTIR correlation spectroscopy was developed as a novel tool to explore the binding of organic ligands with Al(III) in DOM present in soils as part of a long-term (21-year) fertilization experiment. The results showed that while it is a popular method for characterizing the binding of organic ligands and metals, fluorescence excitation-emission matrix-parallel factor analysis can only characterize the binding characteristics of fluorescent substances (i.e., protein-, humic-, and fulvic-like substances) with Al(III). However, 2D FTIR correlation spectroscopy can characterize the binding characteristics of both fluorescent and nonfluorescent (i.e., polysaccharides, lipids, and lignin) substances with Al(III). Meanwhile, 2D FTIR correlation spectroscopy demonstrated that the sequencing/ordering of organics binding with Al(III) could be modified by the use of long-term fertilization strategies. Furthermore, 2D FTIR correlation spectroscopy revealed that the high SOC content in the chemical plus manure (NPKM) treatment in the long term fertilization experiment can be attributed to the formation of noncrystalline microparticles (i.e., allophane and imogolite). In summary, 2D FTIR correlation spectroscopy is a promising approach for the characterization of metal-organic complexes.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The molarless condition has been reported to compromise learning and memory functions. However, it remains unclear how the molarless condition directly affects the central nervous system, and the functional consequences on the brain cortex and hippocampus have not been described in detail. The aim of this study was to find the molecular mechanism related with learning and memory deficit after a bilateral molarless condition having been surgically induced in senescence-accelerated mice/prone 8 (SAMP8) mice, which may ultimately provide an experimental basis for clinical prevention of senile dementia. METHODS: Mice were either sham-operated or subjected to complete molar removal. The animals' body weights were monitored every day. Learning ability and memory were measured in a water maze test at the end of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd months after surgery. As soon as significantly prolonged escape latency in the molarless group was detected, the locomotor activity was examined in an open field test. Subsequently, the animals were decapitated and the cortex and hippocampus were dissected for Western blotting to measure the expression levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and the tropomyosin related kinase B (TrkB), the high affinity receptor of BDNF. RESULTS: Slightly lower weights were consistently observed in the molarless group, but there was no significant difference in weights between the two groups (P > 0.05). Compared with the sham group, the molarless group exhibited lengthened escape latency in the water maze test three months after surgery, whereas no difference in locomotor activity was observed. Meanwhile, in the cortex and hippocampus, BDNF levels were significantly decreased in the molarless group (P < 0.05); but the expression of its receptor, TrkB, was not significantly affected. CONCLUSION: These results suggested that the molarless condition impaired learning and memory abilities in SAMP8 mice three months after teeth extraction, and this effect was accompanied by significantly reduced BDNF expression in the cortex and hippocampus.

RESUMO

Composting of animal manures is believed as an alternative way for directly recycling them in farms, and therefore assessment of compost maturity is crucial for achieving high quality compost. Fluorescence excitation-emission matrices (EEMs) combined with regional integration analysis is presented to assess compost maturity. The results showed that the EEM contours of water-extract organic matter (WEOM) from immature composts exhibited four peaks at excitation/emission (Ex/Em) of 220/340nm, 280/340nm, 220/410nm, and 330/410nm, whereas EEM contour of WEOM from mature composts had only two peaks at Ex/Em of 230/420nm and 330/420nm. Pearson correlation demonstrated that peaks intensity rather than their ratios had a significantly correlation with the common indices assessing compost maturity, whereas the normalized excitation-emission area volumes (Φ(i,n)s) from regional integration analysis had a stronger correlation with the common indices assessing compost maturity than peaks intensity. It is concluded that the Φ(i,n)s from regional integration analysis are more suitable to assess the maturity of compost than the intensities of peaks. Therefore, the fluorescence spectroscopy combined with regional integration analysis can be used as a valuable industrial and research tool for assessing compost maturity, given its high sensitivity and selectivity.

RESUMO

Assessment of compost maturity is crucial for achieving high quality compost in order to guarantee its marketability. In this context, a novel technique that combines fluorescence excitation-emission matrices (EEMs) with parallel factor (PARAFAC) analysis to assess compost maturity is presented. A total of 60 fluorescence EEMs of composts were successfully decomposed into a three-factor model using PARAFAC analysis. Components 1 [excitation/emission (Ex/Em) wavelengths=(230, 330)/410] and 2 [Ex/Em wavelengths=(250, 350)/450] were attributable to humic-like and fulvic-like substances, whereas component 3 [Ex/Em wavelengths=(220, 280)/340] belonged to protein-like substances. Pearson correlation analysis between the common maturity indices and log scores of three components demonstrated that components 1 and 3 are more suitable to assess compost maturity than component 2. These results reveal that EEM-PARAFAC could be applied as a valuable tool for assessing compost maturity, given its high sensitivity and selectivity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the treatment effects of the half-columnar shaped mandibular block bone onlay grafting technique for augmentation of the resorbed maxillary anterior alveolar ridge after single tooth missing. METHODS: A total of 15 sites of 14 patients received ridge augmentation surgeries. The recipient sites were prepared with trephines, the half-columnar shaped bone blocks were harvested from the ramus and external oblique ridges with trephines according to diameters of the recipient sites. The bone blocks were placed as lateral onlay grafts on recipient beds and secured by means of titanium screws. Particulate bone was added and absorbable membranes were used to stabilize and protect the grafts. After a mean interval of 4.5 months of healing the flaps were re-opened, the screws were removed and non-submerged implants were placed. The width and height of the alveolar ridges were recorded. After 3 months, implant-supported crowns were provided to the patients. One year later, the peri-impant condition and the marginal bone resorption on the proximal sites were observed. RESULTS: Mean lateral augmentation obtained at the time of bone grafting was (3.8 + or - 0.8) mm, 5 out of 15 sites exhibited a mean of 3 mm of vertical augmentation. The mean healing time was 4.5 months, the mean percentage of horizontal and vertical bone resorption in the mean time were 8% and 7% respectively. No major complications were recorded at donor sites. No implant was lost during the study period. Clinical parameters and probing depth (< or = 4 mm) demonstrated the presence of a healthy peri-implant mucosa after 1 year of prosthetic reconstruction. The clinical and radiographic bone observations showed no more than 1.2 mm of resorption after bone graft and implant placement. CONCLUSION: The half-columnar shaped mandibular bone graft (from the ramus and external oblique ridge) is a promising technique for bone augmentation in localized alveolar ridge defects after single tooth missing. This procedure offers easy access, good bone quantity for localized repair, low morbidity, decreased complaints of postoperative sensory disturbances or discomfort, minimal graft resorption, and a shorter healing time as compared with other methods for bone repair.
